Mage Publishers, an independent press established in 1985, is dedicated to publishing English translations of Persian (Iranian) literature and culture. The name “Mage” (singular of Magi, rhyming with sage) is derived from the Persian word magha, meaning bounty and giving, symbolizing the publisher’s mission to share Iran’s heritage with the world. The Mage logo is inspired by a 7th-century burial shroud, now housed in the Cleveland Museum of Art, believed to belong to Bibi Shahrbanu, the daughter of Yazdegerd III and wife of Imam Hosein. The design depicts the legendary Zal being lifted by the Simorgh, a powerful symbol of spiritual rebirth and the enduring legacy of Iranian culture.
